Canterbury is a historic cathedral city. It is famous as the home of the Archbishop of Canterbury, head of the Anglican Church. The prominent landmark of the city and its symbol is Canterbury Cathedral. St Augustine’s Abbey and St Martin’s Church are also spectacular sights, and together with the Cathedral form a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Cathedral Precincts are worth exploring, especially Green Court.
As for museums, the Canterbury Roman Museum and the Kent Museum of Freemasonry reflect the history of the old city.
Tourists enjoy visiting Howletts Wild Animal Park, which is home to exotic and endangered species including gorillas, lions, tigers and elephants.
